Hardik Pandya has been diagnosed with a symptomatic right tibial bone stress response. The BCCI Centre of Excellence medical team has confirmed there is no structural bone damage and no established stress fracture, but has prescribed two weeks of rest as a precautionary measure.

Pandya had been included in the India A squad announced on September 9, 2026, as a conditional selection. That conditional status has now become a confirmed absence, with the all-rounder beginning his rest period under the supervision of BCCI medical staff.

The diagnosis, reported by Cricbuzz on September 26, 2026, rules Pandya out of the India A one-day series against Australia A. The three matches are scheduled for October 6, 9 and 11 in Puducherry.

How long will Hardik Pandya be sidelined?

Tibial bone stress injuries of this nature typically require four to six weeks for full recovery. With a two-week rest period already prescribed, Pandya's return to competitive cricket will depend on how his condition responds during that window.

His most recent competitive appearance came in IPL 2026, where he featured in 10 of 14 matches. He has not played competitive cricket since. At international level, his last T20I was the T20 World Cup final held in Ahmedabad in March 2026, while his last ODI appearance was the Champions Trophy final in March 2025. India head coach Gautam Gambhir had spoken about Pandya's value to the side, showering praise on his profile .

"Very few teams have a player like that who can bowl 10 overs for you, plus bat at number six or seven, plus with that impact. So the focus right now is just that," Gambhir had told JioStar, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Is Hardik Pandya's New Zealand tour place at risk?

Pandya's availability for India's tour of New Zealand remains uncertain. The tour begins with T20Is running from October 22 to November 1, followed by ODIs from November 4 to 15. Given the standard four-to-six-week recovery timeline for tibial bone stress, the T20I leg falls within the outer range of his expected rest and rehabilitation period. The question of his fitness carries added weight ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Gambhir had stressed the importance of Pandya accumulating game time.

"He needs game time as well. Because after the IPL he hasn’t played a lot of cricket. So if the focus is only that he has to play the 50-over format, then he might be short of cricket. So sometimes you will also think that in T20 cricket, if he plays a bit of T20 cricket, then plays One Day cricket because game time going into the World Cup is going to be extremely, extremely important. You cannot go there half-cooked," Gambhir added.
