Ireland player Harry Tector has been fined 15 per cent of his match fee for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in Belfast.

Tector was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Tector’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.

The incident occurred in the sixth over of Ireland’s second innings on Saturday, when Tector showed dissent on being adjudged caught behind the wicket by delaying leaving the pitch and gesturing towards the umpire. Also, on leaving the field, he threw his bat and gloves.

Tector admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Jeff Crowe of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Richard Kettleborough and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid, third umpire Mark Hawthorne and fourth umpire Jonathan Kennedy levelled the charge.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

Ireland denies Zimbabwe a win as McBrine, Tucker chip in

Chasing 158 with over a couple of days remaining, the hosts must have thought of an easy sail over the target at Belfast. However, half the side went back with just 21 runs on the board. This needed a certain partnership, which is exactly when Andy McBrine and Lorcan Tucker took the onus upon themselves. The duo added 96 runs for the sixth wicket, and put the Irish in comfortable position.

McBrine who scored an unbeaten half-century was also adjudged the Player of the Match, as Ireland thwarted Zimbabwe by four wickets on Day 4 of the Only Test.
