After veteran Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria had criticized Rishabh Pant for being overweight, his former teammate Salman Butt has now come forward and said that the Indian stumper is not giving any importance to fitness standards.

Giving further clarification on the same, Butt added that had Pant been fit, then he would have been able to execute his innovative shots with ease. At the same time, the cricketer-turned-cricket expert also mentioned that since the 25-year-old is not very agile, he is under the level where he should be in terms of fitnI always speak on Rishabh Pant's fitness: Salman Butt

"Rishabh Pant was playing the way he likes to, but he went for something innovative and got out. It was a weird dismissal as the ball hit the bat, pad before rattling the stumps. I always speak on Rishabh Pant's fitness because the kind of shots he plays and tries to innovate, it would be easier for him to execute those shots if he was fit. I think he is overweight. Definitely, he is overweight and because of that, he is not very agile. He is under the level where he should be, in terms of fitness," said Butt on his YouTube channel.

In the first innings in Chattogram, Pant had come to the crease when India were reeling at 48/3. He played a counter-attacking knock from thereon and scored 46 runs off 45 deliveries which gave the Indian innings a much-needed momentum at that point in time.

Significant contributions from Cheteshwar Pujara, Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav helped India post a mammoth score of 404 runs on the board. Meanwhile, Pant would now be hoping to showcase better performance in the second innings as India look to go 1-0 in the two-match series. They are already in a commanding position in the ongoing Test match in Chattogram with their lead having gone well past 300 runs.
