The 46th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a thrilling clash between the Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings and the five-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday, May 3.

Batting first, Punjab posted a whopping 214 runs on the board for Mumbai to chase. However, during the run chase, the bowling attack of the hosts was taken to the cleaners, Arshdeep Singh in particular. The Indian pacer conceded 66 runs and only managed to take one wicket in the process.

Reflecting on Arshdeep’s recent performances, former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Deep Dasgupta has come forward and opined that the 24-year-old is currently in a wrong headspace and that one good spell is what he needs to get back in the rhythm.

"Punjab's bowling unit has gone for plenty in the last few games. I don't think that helps their confidence either. Someone like Arshdeep, I mean as good as he is, but he has been very, very expensive. Leave aside this game; even in the last game, he was very expensive," Deep Dasgupta told Cricbuzz

"As a unit, they haven't performed. He is not very expressive, but you can see in his body language that he needs one good spell to get him back into that right mind space," he added.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan’s blitzkrieg helps MI trump PBKS

Coming to chase down a target of 215 runs, Mumbai got off to a shaky start as they lost skipper Rohit Sharma for a duck. Furthermore, Cameron Green failed to make an impact in the top order as well. However, it were the knocks of Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan that helped the five-time champions secure a win.

Suryakumar scored 66 runs off 31 balls, whereas Ishan Kishan amassed 75 runs off 41 deliveries. Their fabulous knocks helped Mumbai score 216 runs as they won the game by six wickets.
