Young spinner Todd Murphy has been impressive so far in his debut match against India in Nagpur. The 22-year-old bowler claimed the prized scalp of KL Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara, and Virat Kohli and kept the visitors in the game. There were plenty of talks regarding his selection in the first Test but the spinner proved everyone wrong and has done a commendable job in the first of the game.

Meanwhile, after he was presented with the Baggy Green, spin wizard Nathan Lyon was spotted talking to the cricketer. Revealing that, the Murphy said that the 36-year-old asked him to remember the reason why he started playing the game and to compete as hard as he can.

“I remember a couple of things that Gaz (Nathan Lyon) said. He said that just make sure I never forget why I started playing cricket and to keep that love for the game and then just get out there and compete as hard as you can,” Murphy said after the end of the first day’s play as quoted by Indian Express.

The young spinner also stated that Lyon is someone who’s very consistent with his stock bowling but he, on the other hand, depends a lot on variation.

“Gaz's stock balls are so good that he believes a lot in that and he is so consistent with it, where I probably rely on a little more variation,” Murphy added.

Ravindra Jadeja impresses on his return to international cricket

Talking about the first Test, the number-one ranked Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been absolutely phenomenal in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The spinner picked up five wickets on his comeback and completely dismantled the Aussie batting unit. He picked up the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Matt Renshaw, Peter Handscomb and Todd Murphy and thus, the Pat Cummins-led side could post only 177 runs in the first innings.

With that bat, the cricketer scored another fifty to bail India out of a difficult situation. When all the other batters were losing their wicket, Jadeja stuck to the crease and played a rather scintillating knock.
