One does not often see a young debutant hopping onto the scene, culminating to be the joint-highest scorer in any sort of cricketing fixture, let alone at one of the grandest stages like the IPL. That's what young Australian batting sensation Jake Fraser-McGurk managed to pull off in Match 26 of IPL 2024. Making his debut in the IPL, Fraser-McGurk scored 55 off 35 in a marauding display of batting and was one of the chief reasons that Delhi Capitals got past the finish line against Lucknow Super Giants.
Former Australian cricketer-turned-commentator Tom Moody was deeply enthralled by Fraser-McGurk's outing. Moody stated that he has immense potential and the youngster should be facing as many deliveries in the powerplay as possible. He also pointed out that given DC's dicey situation, all they should focus on is winning games and for that, taking a risks would be necessary.
"What we saw from Fraser-McGurk tonight. You want him to face every single ball in the powerplay because he's got no off button, and he'll go and go hard. Uh, there's yes, there's a lot of experience there, but there's a huge amount of upside to what he can offer and Dehi are in a position where they need to just win games of cricket, so they need to risk their game to accumulate wins," Moody told Star Sports.
DC's mindset needs to be aggressive: Tom Moody
Moody also emphasised on the requirement for the Capitals to play an aggressive brand of cricket if they want to reach the finals. As per him, the only way to go about this would be selecting players wisely and making the needful changes in the team structure, starting with Fraser-McGurk coming to bat at the top of the order.

"They can't play conservatively and expect to play finals from where there are, you know, played six games, only won two. So they need to play a really aggressive brand of cricket, and their mindset needs to be aggressive. Therefore, their selection and the way they structure their side needs to also back that philosophy. So, for me, Fraser McGurk needs to be batting at the top of the order," Moody added.
