Former cricket administrator and CEO of Baroda Cricket Association Makarand Waingankar made a rather stunning remark on India batter Prithvi Shaw. Notably, the batter has been in dismal form, as seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, failing to play big knocks and getting dismissed for paltry scores on numerous occasions.

Makarand Waingankar took to his social media handle to share a peculiar update on the batter, as he stated that he managed to get a contract from Northants for Shaw after holding multiple talks with the county sides. Waingankar further took a jibe at the cricketer, adding that he would like to see his bat do the bulk of talking rather than his videos on social media.

“With great difficulty I managed to get a county contract for Prithvi Shaw for Northants after speaking to half a dozen counties. I only hope I get to read his on field performance more than off the field videos,” Waingankar shared on his Twitter handle.

Plying his trade for the Delhi Capitals, Shaw concluded with a meagre 106 runs in eight outings at a dismal average of 13.25 in the IPL 2023. Notably, the batter also garnered massive limelight for all the wrong reasons, as he was involved in a ‘selfie controversy’ prior to the lucrative T20 league.

The batter engaged in a war of words with a model in Mumbai after the latter demanded to take selfies which irked the cricketer. Things turned south as the accused and other people involved smashed the rear and front of Shaw’s friend’s car using baseball bats.

Speaking about the county contract, Shaw will play for Northamptonshire in the County Championship matches and England’s 50-over domestic tournament. BCCI is yet to release an official statement on this regard and could likely make the announcement in the coming weeks.
