Australia's T20I captain Aaron Finch denied rumours of him retiring from the game. The opener is absolutely sure about continuing in the shortest format and is gunning to return back to the field after he suffered a hamstring injury during the T20 World Cup and didn't feature in Australia's last World Cup game against Afghanistan.

The 36-year-old on Wednesday dismissed all the rumours of him retiring after the upcoming Big Bash League and issued a statement stating that people shouldn’t write him off just yet. He also mentioned that a small break has helped him in getting back on track.

“Hopefully people don’t write me off too quick. I’m really keen to get back into it. Once you have a little break for a while, it gets the juices flowing again,” said the former skipper of Melbourne Renegades.

Finch reacts to Renegades’ latest signings in Andre Russell and Martin Guptill

After finishing at the bottom of the table last season, Renegades have made some top-notch signings by bringing in the likes of Andre Russell, Martin Guptill, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman among many others. Captain Finch lauded the new signings and expects to start the tournament well in order to do gain momentum early on.

"We’ve added some real strength to our group, so for us, it’s just about starting the tournament well. In T20 cricket, experience counts for a lot. Guys like Andre Russell and Martin Guptill have dominated world cricket for a long time, so they’re huge drawcards for our club."

“The Big Bash is a phenomenal tournament and we get some of the best players in the world,” said the 36-year-old ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Renegades will be playing their first match of the season against Brisbane Heat, who finished seventh on the table last season. Heat have changed their captain ahead of the upcoming season and appointed Australian opener Usman Khawaja as the new leader of the pack. Both teams will square off against each other on Thursday, December 15 at Cairns in Queensland.
