There's every reason for any parent to be proud of their son representing the nation in a sport as competitive as cricket. Father of Moeen Ali, Munir Ali, echoed precisely the same sentiment.

In a recent conversation, Munir expressed his feelings noting that it was a source of pride for the family and that it was a moment to cherish forever.

"As a father, I’m a bit disheartened to see my son no longer playing for England, but he’s had a fantastic career. It’s an honour, for us, for Moeen to be playing for England and be in an England shirt for 10 years. I am delighted for him for what he has achieved on and off the ground," stated Munir, as quoted by BBC.

Munir further spoke on how every blessing has its final chapter and that he derived immense satisfaction that his son was wrapping up the game on a high note.

"Everything that he does, he always talks to me first. Obviously, I was a little bit sad, but I was also happy that he’s finishing the game on a high. All good things come to an end one day," added Munir.

It’s the right time for him to give a chance to youngsters who're coming through: Munir

Although expressing views typical of a parent who sees boundless potential in their child, Munir felt Moeen's call to retire was the right one for the fledgling prospects desperate to make it to the top.

"As a father, I feel a bit different, but it’s the right time for him to give a chance to youngsters who're coming through. He’s in very good form to be honest, he’s playing as well as he was playing five or six years ago. He looks very good and he does keep himself fit," concluded Munir.

Moeen's last game donning the English jersey came in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. He registered a total of 6678 runs for England and managed 366 wickets in his international career.
