Aamer Jamal proved to be a one-man army for Pakistan in the ongoing three-match Test series against Australia. In his debut Test series, the 27-year-old has stunned the hosts, by picking up back-to-back wickets which had helped Pakistan a lot, especially in the absence of Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf. In the third Test at Sydney Cricket Ground, Jamal registered his career-best figure in Test cricket as he picked up six wickets for 69 runs.

After that, the all-rounder was ‘over the moon’ and recalled the time when he used to watch the team play. The Mianwali-born cricketer added that he doesn’t care much about leaking runs as his focus is only to pick wickets and the team management backs him for the same role.

“I'm over the moon, proud to be representing my country at this level. I think this a wonderful opportunity for me. It's been so long, I still remember those days when I used to watch the Pakistan team,” Jamal was quoted as saying by India Today.

“I just back myself every time, even if I am conceding runs, when you try to go for wickets, you leak boundaries as well, the coaching staff has given me a lot of confidence,” he added.

I think that partnership brought us back into the game: Jamal

Courtesy of Jamal’s six-fer in the third Test, Australia were bundled out for 299 runs, helping Pakistan take a lead of 14 runs. Meanwhile, Jamal also reacted to his batting display, as the cricketer made valuable 82 runs to help the visitors post 313 runs on the board. He stitched an important partnership of 86 runs with Mir Hamza, which brought Pakistan back into the contest.

“We were seven down for 227; I think that partnership brought us back in the game. We are a couple of runs ahead of them and that matters,” Jamal mentioned when asked about his batting.

Meanwhile, Pakistan had a disastrous start with the bat in the second innings and that’s concerning as they are on the verge of a humiliating whitewash at the hands of Australia.
