India scripted history on Sunday evening when the Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the second T20I to win the series with a game to spare, as they defeated South Africa for the first time at home, The Indian batters had a great outing as they posted a whopping 237/3 in the first innings, but KL Rahul was surprised on receiving the Player of the Match award.

Rahul asserted that Suryakumar Yadav was the right person to be adjudged as the Player of the Match for his quick-fire valiant 22-ball 61 because it had a greater impact on India's 16-run victory in the high-scoring game. Yadav was run-out after confusion between him and Virat Kohli but played a very crucial knock while batting at No. 4.

"I am surprised I am getting the Man of the Match award, Surya should have gotten it. He changed the game. Having batted in the middle order, I have realized that it is difficult. DK doesn't always get too many balls to face, and he was phenomenal, and so were Surya and Virat," KL Rahul said during the post-match presentation after receiving the award.

India and South Africa indulge in a high-scoring thriller

For India, it wasn’t just Suryakumar Yadav who contributed to the game. Notably, all the five batters who walked out to play in the first innings played a very important role in the game. KL Rahul was at his ruthless best as he smashed a 27-ball 58 in the second game, continuing his good form from the previous game where he had notched up a half-century as well.

Rahul and Rohit Sharma put on a 96-run opening stand before Suryakumar Yadav took command alongside senior batter Virat Kohli. India put up a record total of 237 on the scoreboard thanks to a thumping 102-run match-winning partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Virat Kohli for the third wicket. The South African batters also posed a threat to India during their chase, but the bowlers were able to restrict them as India won the game by 16-runs in the high-scoring thriller.
