Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting recently stated that the role of an anchor is slowly dying in the shortest format of the game. A lot of players including the likes of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal among many others have been under the scanner for the same reason in the ongoing IPL 2023 as their strike rates have been a major point of discussion.
Speaking about the same, England international Liam Livingstone has stated that he is not a big fan of the term anchor as every cricketer likes to play a different brand of cricket. The 29-year-old also mentioned that every player often has a different role in the team and they eventually stick to the plan that is given by the team management.
“It depends in each team, everybody plays the game in a very different way. I don’t like the term anchor either. Every team has different players and it is all about every player having a key role in how to play,” Livingstone was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
It feels nice to be back playing: Livingstone
Punjab Kings all-rounder Livingstone was out of action for quite some time due to a knee injury and thus couldn’t join the franchise at the start of the ongoing season. However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) finally gave him NOC at a later date. He has already played a brilliant innings against Mumbai Indians earlier in the season.
Meanwhile, speaking about his return, Livingstone stated that he is happy to be back and is enjoying his game at the moment and also analysed his team’s performance so far in the cash-rich league.
“It feels nice to be back playing. It has been a while since I played, good time to reflect and work on my game and now really nice to be back enjoying playing cricket.
“It has been very up and down. We have played some good cricket at times but lost crucial moments throughout the season. We now have to win three out of three so everyone is excited for what is to come,” Livingstone added.
