Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh has raised doubts about the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting lineup, mentioning that it lacks sufficient strength to score 170 or 190. The 2016 champions are yet to win a game in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Notably, they finished eighth in the previous two IPL editions after having a terrible campaign.
Harbhajan said that SRH would struggle if skipper Aiden Markram did not perform well. He also stated that Rahul Tripathi is a skilled player, but he had made no effort in the competition so far. He went on to say that he felt Tripathi might do well in the following matchups.
"I don't think SRH has a batting unit that can put up a score of 170-190. If (Aiden) Markram doesn't score, the task becomes more difficult. Tripathi is a skillful player and there is no doubt about it but he hasn't done anything significant with the bat so far this season. Maybe he might score in the season further," said Harbhajan on his YouTube channel.
SRH will host PBKS in Hyderabad on Sunday
SRH began their IPL 2023 campaign with a 72-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals (RR), followed by a 5-wicket defeat to Lucknow Super Giants. (LSG). Despite having some outstanding players in their squad, their terrible batting performance has let them down, resulting in the two aforementioned losses.
In the match against LSG, SRH won the toss and chose to bat first. Aiden Markram, the new skipper of SRH, came in for his first game but failed to change the fate of his side as he was dismissed on a golden duck. SRH failed to form partnerships throughout the match, scoring only 121 runs in 20 overs.
SRH will next take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday, April 9 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad. Notably, PBKS has amassed two wins so far in the tournament.
