For Bangladesh cricket, it seems everything is not going as it should have been and they have been facing quite a few challenges recently. First, they were beaten comprehensively by Afghanistan in the recently concluded ODI series. Thereafter, a sudden retirement announcement was followed by the ODI team captain, Tamim Iqbal, who subsequently opted for a six-week sabbatical.
Meanwhile, speaking of the ongoing series, Bangladesh managed to beat Afghanistan in the last ODI to avoid a possible whitewash through the hands of the visitors. As a result of the last ODI win, the hosts have got much-needed momentum against Afghanistan. With this, the focus has shifted to a two-match T20I series and Bangladesh will look to dominate the shortest format.
Fascinatingly enough, ahead of the first T20I, there has been plenty of noise regarding the dressing room environment of the team. In the same vein, Shakib Al Hasan addressed the concerns related to his teams' morale and unity within the dressing room and he confidently dismissed any issues.
"You see, a lot of things may appear different from the outside but I don't think we were ever unsettled in the dressing room," Shakib said during a pre-match press conference in Sylhet, on Thursday, July 13.
Furthermore, Hasan iterated that the environment of the team has always been healthy and it does not change whether we win or lose a match. The only focus of the team has been to improve their game with each passing day, thereby, highlighting the team's commitment to continuous improvement and collective effort.
Bangladesh will seek redemption by winning T20I series against Afghanistan
In spite of the recent poor performances, Bangladesh's cricketing fraternity is known for its resilience. The team has faced adversity in the past and has managed to bounce back even stronger. The upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan presents an opportunity for redemption and a chance to restore faith among their passionate supporters as the marquee world cup is just around the corner.
Bangladesh are aware of the challenges that lie ahead, as Afghanistan has proved to be a formidable opponent. With a talented lineup and an impressive track record in the T20 format, Afghanistan poses a significant threat to Bangladesh's aspirations. However, the hosts will be looking to get the benefit of their home advantage from their ever-loyal fans to turn the tide in their favour.
