The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is on the lookout for a new head coach for their senior men's team after Rahul Dravid has confirmed he will not re-apply for the prestigious position. The former India captain has been coaching the Men in Blue for close to three years.
Dravid became India's head coach in November 2021 for a two-year period that ended with the conclusion of the ODI World Cup last year. However, the Indore-born got an extension after the marquee event, as the BCCI wanted to ensure continuity in the team. However, after his second term ends following the ongoing T20 World Cup, Dravid is scheduled to part ways and the Men in Blue are set to welcome a new head coach.
The last date for sending applications for the role of men's team's head coach was May 27. The richest cricket board in the world is currently screening the applicants and are expected to announce Dravid's successor in the next few weeks. In the same vein, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was recently asked whether he had applied for the lucrative offer. The 58-year-old honestly admitted that he never coached a team and said that he loved his job as an expert, commentating on the game.
“I haven't coached any team in my life. I just enjoy this job (punditry) too much,” the cricketer-turned-commentator told ESPNcricinfo.
Andy Flower answered the question passed on by Sanjay Manjrekar
Manjrekar cheekily passed on the same question to Zimbabwean legend Andy Flower, who was also a part of the discussion. The former England coach claimed that he hadn't applied for India's head coach's position, as he is content with his coaching roles in franchise leagues.
“I have not applied for the job, on the basis that I am very happy with my appointments at the moment in franchise cricket. Whoever does get it, I think they are lucky from a professional and personal point of view. It is one of the best jobs in cricket that you could get and a huge honour for whoever gets it,” Flower said.
