'I sat, I got trolled, if I stood, I got trolled' - KL Rahul shares about being abused on social media

KL Rahul had an outstanding World Cup 2023 campaign. The wicketkeeper-batter was a roadblock in the middle order for every opposition. Though he amassed 452 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.33, his knock in the crucial final against Australia became fodder for critics. The pitch was not conducive to batting but 66 runs in 107 balls was a tough pill to swallow for insane Indian cricket fans.

After India eventually lost the final, Rahul’s social media handles' comment section was flooded with jibes and trolls. The cricketer revealed that he was pre-equipped to deal with the negative comments at first but things started getting out of hand slowly. He even added that during his off days from the field, the bandwagon kept on rolling.

"I used to be good with (handling) trolling. I did not care, but I feel I was much younger back then. And then, a couple of years back, I was exposed to a lot of trolling. If I sat, I got trolled, if I stood, I got trolled," Rahul said on entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath's YouTube Channel.

Rahul's steadfastness on middle-order spot peck no result 

The Karnataka batter was subsequently dropped from the Indian squad that toured West Indies for the T20 World Cup 2024. He was adamant about chiseling himself into the middle-order of the Indian team and solving the number four dispute. He even took some action as he featured in the middle order for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024.

As fate would have it, Ekana Stadium, the home ground for LSG, was not too conducive for batting. The bowler-friendly tracks demanded a subdued approach from the right-handed batter and Sanju Samson was churning runs miles away in Jaipur. Though Samson was picked in the T20 WC squad, the comeback of Rishabh Pant meant neither Samson nor Rahul could sneak into the playing XI.
