‘I scored 200 a couple of weeks ago, I’m not in a rut’ - David Warner reflects on Test form

Team India dominated Australia in the first two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. The hosts put out excellent performances as the Aussies crumbled to two big defeats. Amid their dismal performances, Australia suffered another setback as they have lost opener David Warner due to an elbow fracture he picked in the second Test. As a result, the southpaw will play no further part in the series and has returned home. 

Meanwhile, Warner was unable to register big numbers in the two games he played, which has led to his future being discussed by many pundits and experts. There have also been several reports that selectors might be looking to drop Warner from the playing XI.

I’ve always said I’m playing to 2024: David Warner

Warner recently spoke about his inclusion in the Australian squad going forward, saying that if he is no longer needed in the Test squad, he will accept his fate. 

"I’ve always said I’m playing to 2024; if the selectors feel that I’m not worthy of my spot, then so be it, and I can push on to the white-ball stuff; I scored 200 a couple of weeks ago, so I’m not in a rut," Warner was quoted as saying by News18.

"I’ve got the next 12 months; a lot of cricket’s ahead for the team, and if I can keep scoring runs and putting my best foot forward for the team and I can help my spot, it’d be great for the team. It’s easy pickings when you’re 36 going on 37. I’ve seen it before with the ex-players as well. So for me, if I’m taking pressure off the rest of the other guys and no one’s worrying about the rest of the team, I’m happy to do that," he added.
