Indian star bowler and one of the best pacers the nation has ever seen, Jasprit Bumrah is known for having a calm and composed demeanour. Very rarely do fans see instances of Bumrah getting hot-headed on the field although he breathes fire as far as his game is concerned, with a searing pace and spearing bouncers, along with all the ingredients of an elite fast bowler.
Bumrah, however, recently shared that he was not exactly cool-headed during his initial days of playing cricket. He confessed that he was a little aggressive and short-tempered. He later felt that he could move further and bring changes to his results if he kept his emotions in check. He said he has learnt from experiences and asks himself what could get the best out of him in given situations.
"I was not always like this. I was a little too aggressive, always on the go, always sitting on the edge, I could get angry really quickly,” said Bumrah in an interview with GQ India. “But then I realized that moving further if my emotions are not kept in check, then there's going to be a lot of variation in my results."
If it's been a bad day, I switch off for a while: Jasprit Bumrah
"I needed to figure out how to control my emotions. Stability really helps. I learned that on the go; obviously, you learn from experiences, you make mistakes. I chose to look at these experiences and then asked myself how I could get the best out of these situations. If it's been a bad day, I switch off for a while. If my mind starts to wander, I divert it to something else. Then I come back and I analyse.” added the 28-year-old.
Bumrah said that regardless of how the day goes, he analyses and reminds himself of what produces results. He generally depends on his own evaluation but when he does not have answers, he turns to people he trusts. He mentioned that he filters out the noise from the outside because he understands his game better than anyone else.
Bumrah expressed that he and his mother have seen highs and lows before they were nothing. He believes in being stable today because he has had the lows in the past. The star Indian pacer is currently facing a setback as he recently sustained a stress fracture that has reportedly put him out of the T20 World Cup. This would be a big blow for the Indian team going to Australia.
