The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the nominees for the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for March 2023 on Thursday, April 6. Kane Williamson of New Zealand, Shakib al Hasan of Bangladesh, and Asif Khan of the UAE have been nominated for the award for the month of March.

After going through a lean patch in Test cricket over the last 24 months, Williamson made an excellent comeback recently. The 32-year-old was crucial in New Zealand’s two-match Test series win against Sri Lanka that culminated recently. He scored a century and a double-hundred against the Lankan Lions.

He scored an unbeaten 121 in the first Test when New Zealand required 285 runs to win in the fourth innings. In the second and final Test, the 32-year-old scored his sixth double-century. Williamson was the clear choice for the Player of the Series award as he scored 337 runs in two games at an average of 168.50.

Shakib was one of Bangladesh's standout players in the three-match ODI series against England. He finished as the Bangla Tigers' leading run-scorer and wicket-taker, with 141 runs and two fifties in three innings. He also grabbed six wickets in the series.

He was brilliant in the T20I series against England, helping Bangladesh to register a historic 3-0 whitewash against the T20 World Champions. Later, he hit a match-winning 93 in the first ODI against Ireland.

Later in the second T20I, he smashed a 24-ball 38* and subsequently took five wickets. Notably, he scored 353 runs and picked 15 wickets in 12 games in March.

Asif Khan was in blistering form during the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 and was instrumental in putting the UAE in contention for a direct qualifier berth. Asif scored two fifties in the UAE's final three home games, both against Nepal.

In an ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 encounter against Nepal, Asif Khan hit the fourth-fastest century in men's ODIs. His form continued in the Qualifier Play-off, where he hammered another hundred against the USA.
