ILT20 franchise MI Emirates on Wednesday, December 28, announced the signing of five promising overseas players for the inaugural season of the top-tier league in the UAE. Lorcan Tucker of Ireland, McKenny Clarke of the West Indies, and the trio of three English players in Daniel Mousley, Thomas Lammonby and Craig Overton will don the MI Emirates outfit in the first season in 2023.
The franchise backed by the five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians boasts a power-packed team with numerous high-profile players. These include the likes of Kieron Pollard (C), Dwayne Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Imran Tahir and Trent Boult featuring in the team alongside the young lads.
Adding to the same, the management with Shane Bond (head coach), Parthiv Patel (batting coach), R Vinay Kumar (bowling coach) and James Franklin (fielding coach) will take the youngsters under their wings and will groom them.
Lorcan Tucker recently made headlines when he fired an unbeaten 71 against Australia and 45* against the West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2022 down under. 19-year-old Clarke has represented the West Indies at the U19 level and has picked two wickets in four matches in List A cricket.
The English trio - Mousley, Lammonby and Overton has featured in the U19 team for the national side and made a name and hence the trio has received the call-up from the ILT20 franchise.
The franchise is set to play its first fixture of the inaugural season against Sharjah Warriors at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on January 14. The league comprises six teams and they will lock horns with each other in a round-robin format followed by the playoffs for the coveted title.
The young players in the side will look to garner experience by playing alongside some of the top names that have played international cricket over the years. Kieron Pollard recently announced his retirement from the IPL and Mumbai Indians will be heading into the next season without his services on the field.
