The inaugural edition of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup gets underway on January 14 in South Africa. As all the emerging players look forward to showcasing their best performances, the England team have been left dejected after a section of social media miscreants passed lewd remarks on their picture online.
The English U19 cricketers were subjected to sexual harassment online after the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) posted a team photograph before the players' departure to South Africa. The ECB had posted the image on their official social media handles, but to their misfortune, the post received some crass comments.
A troll asked the players to take part in beauty contests while comments were also made on their hairstyles. Apart from that, a few miscreants demanded their official Instagram handles while another bully targeted one of the players, encircling her face and asking her whereabouts.
Meanwhile, the objectionable remarks did not go unnoticed and the trolls were severely bashed on social media. In fact, one of the supporters, who also claimed to be the mother of a participating cricketer, mentioned that she had to force herself to stop reading the comments.
As a mum of one of the girls I have had to stop myself from reading the comments!! 🥵🤬 https://t.co/Bp4ycV5ahH
