Watching Rohit Sharma on a flat track smashing it all over the park is a familiar sight for cricket fans around the globe, but watching him throw his wicket away is a rare sight.
Much was expected from the Indian skipper in the fourth Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad after Australia piled on the runs on Day 2, but the right-handed batter disappointed and was dismissed early on Day 3.
Rohit, who opened the innings with Shubman Gill on Day 2, got off to a promising start and was unbeaten on 17 at stumps. Rohit was in the mood in the first hour of play on Day 3, pulled a Mitchell Starc bouncer over the fence, and looked in pristine touch.
Rohit looked set for a big knock but got out cheaply after trying to punch a delivery off Matthew Kuhnemann that held up on the surface straight to Marnus Labuschagne for 35.
The opener was not fully committed and played a reckless shot that could have been avoided and looked livid with himself with the manner of his dismissal on his way back to the pavilion.
Day 3 of the fourth Test began with India in a promising position, and once play began, the runs were coming thick and fast. Before Rohit was dismissed, the Indian openers quickly found their rhythm, scoring 38 runs in the first hour. India looks a steadied ship with Gill showcasing class and notching up his fifth half-century in Tests, while Pujara looks set on 23* as the Indians look to get closer to the Australian total.
