With Day 3 of the third Test between India and Australia underway, the hosts look to defend a slender target of 76 runs. India got off to a perfect start to Day 3, as Usman Khawaja was dismissed for a duck after a brilliant delivery by Ravichandran Ashwin.
Khawaja was influential for the Aussies in the first innings, as the 36-year-old scored 60 runs off 147 deliveries. The early dismissal of the left-handed batter was just the start that India were looking for.
Ashwin got Khawaja’s wicket off the second delivery of the day as the ball turned sharply and the batter attempted to defend on the front foot, but the ball clipped the outside edge and landed safely in the hands of KS Bharat. Khawaja did use a review, but it was in vain as Ultraedge confirmed his dismissal.
After the early dismissal of Usman Khawaja. Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head made no mistakes as they relentlessly attacked the Indian bowlers. Australia just lost a single wicket as they won the game by nine wickets.
Australia win the third Test against India comfortably
Ravichandran Ashwin continued to trouble the batters after Khawaja’s wicket, but the pressure subsided after Labuschagne and Head gained control of the match. Both the players played important knocks of 28 and 49 runs, respectively, as Australia made their much-awaited comeback in the series.
The series score reads 2-1 in favour of India, and the hosts will hope that things will move in their favour as both sides take each other on for the fourth Test in Ahmedabad. The fourth Test is scheduled to begin on March 9, and team India will look to maintain their grip on the series and win it despite losing the third match. The hosts need just one win to guarantee their place in the World Test Championship final.
