IND vs BAN: Security beefed up in Kanpur after reports of protest near Green Park Stadium

Ahead of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur, an incident has led to intense security arrangements for the game. 20 members of the Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha conducted a ‘havan’ obstructing the road near the stadium to protest against the alleged mistreatment of Hindus in Bangladesh. In the wake of this, the Police have laid out a fool-proof plan during the game.

The miscreants were named in FIR and the registered names are Rakesh Mishra, Vikas, Atul, Jaydeep, Vikas Gupta, Prashant Dheer, Ajay Rathore, Ashish, Brajesh, and about 10 others unidentified.

For the unversed, Bangladesh is currently going through a challenging phase where minority students led protests, owing to being sidelined, creating political uproar in the country. As Kanpur braces to host the Bangladesh cricket team, Kanpur's Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harish Chander said that the police force, including senior rank officials, are ready to guard the event.

“We are reviewing the security arrangements to leave no stone unturned and (are) confident of getting an adequate police force to meet the requirements,” said ACP Chander as quoted by TOI.

Chander also added that the police are in contact with central and state agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the state Intelligence to neutralise any lead which could harm security. Bangladesh arrived in Kanpur on September 24 and the Test will commence on September 27.

FIR has been lodged under BNS sections: Shrawan Kumar

District Commissioner of Police (East) Shrawan Kumar Singh has been made a nodal officer of the security of the India and Bangladesh game. He said that Green Park Stadium and Hotel Landmark have been divided into sectors, zones, and sub-zones. These zones and sectors will be looked after by the DCP, additional DCP, and ACP rank officials

“The FIR has been lodged under BNS sections of 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 191 (2) (rioting), 223 (disobeying an order promulgated by a public servant), and 285 (obstruction or injury to any person in any public way),” said Shrawan Kumar.
