India's Mixed Disability cricket team secured a commanding victory over England at Lord's Cricket Ground on August 19, posting 206 runs for the loss of four wickets before restricting their opponents to 88 all out. The 118-run victory margin came in the seventh and final IT20 of the series, which ran from August 5 to 19.
The win marked a significant moment for the Indian squad, who celebrated their success by recreating Sourav Ganguly's iconic shirt-waving gesture from his 2002 NatWest Trophy final triumph at the same venue.
The match saw strong batting performances from India's middle order. Arjun Gawre, Major Magray and Sai Akash all contributed runs to help India reach their total of 206-4, which proved to be their highest score across the entire seven-match series.
England's bowling attack struggled to contain the Indian batsmen, with Alfie Pyle managing to take two wickets for the hosts. The Indian bowlers then delivered a dominant display to dismiss England for 88, securing the emphatic victory.
England captain Callum Flynn reflected on the loss and his team's experience at Lord's.
"It's such a disappointing end for us, we've fought so hard this series and done so much right and I felt it was all leading to a sign-off win here, but it wasn't to be," Flynn was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
"Hopefully in a year's time we'll get a chance to get our first win at Lord's. As cricketers with disabilities, some of us might have imagined we'd never get the chance to play here - the next step now is getting a win here."
The series concluded with England holding a 4-3 advantage in the overall IT20 tally, despite the loss in the final match. However, India's victory at the home of cricket provided a memorable finish to the competition and allowed the team to mark the occasion with a celebration that honoured one of Indian cricket's most celebrated moments.
The recreation of Ganguly's gesture connected the Mixed Disability team's achievement to a landmark moment in Indian cricket history, symbolising the progress and recognition of disability cricket on the international stage.
