The first ever independent woman director of the International Cricket Council (ICC), Indra Nooyi’s term has ended with the apex council. The former CEO of PepsiCo held the position from June 2018 and as per the constitution of ICC, an independent woman director can hold the term in three batches of two years per tenure. In July 2024, Nooyi exhausted the allotted tenure and will make way for a new director.

According to the reports from Cricbuzz, Nooyi bid farewell to the ICC during the council's meeting in Colombo. It is further noted that the ICC is in search of suitable candidates for the role, and an Australian woman is believed to fill in her shoes. It is worth noting that before her position at the ICC, Nooyi was the CEO of PepsiCo from 2006 to 2018. She was appointed to the ICC by former ICC chairman and BCCI president, Shashank Manohar.

With the departure of a 68-year-old, the ICC panel, which usually consisted of 17 members, has come down to 16. The board however boasts 12 full members, three Associate Nation directors, and the chairman in its pantheon. ICC has issued a notification for the election of a new chairman and the members have a huge say in the latest induction over individual votes.

Speaking of the chairman’s post, a candidate requires a minimum of nine votes to be elected as chairman of ICC. Going by the speculations, BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah is poised to hold the position as he is termed favourite in the race. Apart from the secretary position at BCCI, Shah also held the President job at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), since 2021. He did not extend his tenure in 2024 and Mohsin Naqvi replaced him as the latter hoped for ICC’s coveted job profile.
