Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar is likely to be confined to the sidelines for an extended period after picking up a suspected hamstring injury in match no. 12 of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023.

The pacer injured his hamstring after bowling barely an over against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, April 8.

Notably, during the fifth ball of the first over of the high-octane clash, Chahar seemed to be in some discomfort but managed to conclude his over. The CSK pacer was seen hobbling as he left the field right after feeling the discomfort upon which Subhranshu Senapati took the field.

As per reports by Cricbuzz, the ace pacer injured his hamstring and could remain on the sidelines for an extended period till he receives the green signal from the medical staff. The injury marks CSK’s second big blow as Ben Stokes is recuperating from a sore heel and is expected to be out for a week.

Chahar missed the entirety of the 2022 season owing to a back injury. If he gets sidelined for an extended period then that can jeopardize CSK's chances of winning their fifth title this season. An official update is yet to be provided by the management as the pacer has headed for scans to understand the duration of the recovery process.

CSK register second consecutive win in IPL 2023

Speaking about the match, the MS Dhoni-led CSK registered their second consecutive win against arch-rivals MI at the Wankhede Stadium. The yellow outfit emerged victorious by seven wickets and 11 balls to spare. Notably, Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged Player of the Match for his 3/20 in his four overs and was aided by the rest of the bowling unit.

In response, flamboyant batters Ajinkya Rahane and Ruturaj Gaikwad did much of the talking with the bat which steered the side to their second win. Rahane’s blistering innings included three maximums and seven boundaries as he got 61 runs off 27 balls.

On the other hand, opener Gaikwad carved out a delicate knock as he got 40 runs off 36 balls to maintain his purple patch. CSK play Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, April 12.
