The 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to commence on Friday, March 31 as defending champions Gujarat Titans lock horns against Chennai Super Kings in the curtain raiser. As the franchises are gearing up for the mega cricket carnival, there are quite a few high-profile cricketers who are set to give the tournament a miss due to different reasons.

Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Will Jacks are among the few that will not feature in the forthcoming edition of the lucrative T20 league as they have sustained injuries of various kinds. Further, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Will Jacks has been ruled out of the league due to a muscle injury while fielding in England's recent victory in their second ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur. On the other hand, Bumrah is still recovering from his recurring back injury.

Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant endured a serious car crash on December 31, 2022 and is still in the process of recovering from the multiple injuries he sustained. Shreyas Iyer, too, is likely to miss the first half of the league owing to a back injury as per recent reports. He has been recently ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against Australia at home after not being able to bat in the second innings of the fourth Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy, in Ahmedabad.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ Jhye Richardson is also set to give the tournament a miss as he recently underwent a surgery due to his hamstring issues. England’s flamboyant batter Jonny Bairstow too underwent a surgery after suffering injuries due to a freak golf accident in September 2022. The Englishman endured multiple fractures to his fibula and it is yet to be determined if he will be available for Punjab Kings.

Rajasthan Royals pacer Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out a lumbar stress fracture. Furthermore, the pacer will require surgery which puts him in a considerable doubt for the 2023 ODI World Cup at home in October-November. Further, CSK’s Kyle Jamieson is struggling with a back stress fracture and will miss the forthcoming season.
