It was a cruel blow for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by just one run. Karn Sharma almost scripted a huge Houdini act with the bat as he smashed Mitchell Starc for three sixes in the final over to nearly win the game.

The Australian bowler though dismissed Karn Sharma and it was followed up by a run-out of Lockie Ferguson to more or less knock RCB out of IPL 2024. The early loss of Virat Kohli in controversial fashion became a huge flash point in the game.

It was the pair of Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks who got the team back into the contest with a stand of 102 from just 8 overs. Andre Russell then sent back both the set batters in a single over to change the tide of the game again. Dinesh Karthik tried his best but fell in the 19th over in what turned out to be yet another amazing game of cricket in IPL 2024.

Here are three changes RCB need to make ahead of their next game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

3. Time to bench Yash Dayal in favour of Akash Deep

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are really struggling with their death bowling this season. Yash Dayal was carted for 56 runs from his four overs with just the wicket of Angkrish Raghuvanshi to show for. Akash Deep has been in good bowling form as seen during the recent India vs England test match in Ranchi.

Akash Deep has played just one game this season and that too against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. It will not affect RCB much if they decide to bench Yash Dayal in favour of Akash Deep who is much quicker and more potent with the ball.

2. Tighten up the bowling in the death overs

It has been a huge challenge for Faf Du Plessis to find a bowler who can deliver the goods in the final five overs of the innings. RCB has been one of the poorest terms in terms of economy as the opposition takes the full toll of some loose bowling.

The next six games will be crucial for RCB as they will be mostly playing for pride. They would need to draft in Vijaykumar Vyshak who has been one of the best death overs bowlers for RCB this season with his change of pace.

1. Time to let Rajat Patidar bat at number three

This move may prove to be contentious considering that Will Jacks has just scored a fifty batting at number 3. Royal Challengers Bengaluru would be wise to let Will Jacks play the Glenn Maxwell role of batting at number four and bowling a few overs.

Rajat Patidar has had great success with the bat in the IPL batting at number 3. The 30-year-old has the game to drop anchor when the need arises and also score runs at a quick pace. This ability to change his game as per the situation makes Rajat Patidar a key batter for RCB and this is one of the biggest reasons why he should bat at the one-down spot.
