Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) face each other in Match 64 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Both teams are desperate to pick up two points to boost their dimming playoff hopes. LSG have relatively more chances to enter the knockout stage, but their poor net run rate of -0.769 will not allow them an easy path.

Delhi, on the other hand, are mathematically alive in the race, but logically they are eliminated. They need to beat LSG by a huge margin plus a lot of other things should fall into the right place. However, invited to bat first at their home ground, the Arun Jaitley Stadium, DC managed to post a fighting total of 208.

For Delhi, their captain Rishabh Pant is back after a one-match ban. David Warner was dropped while Gulbadin Naib returned to the team. LSG also made a couple of changes to their line-up. KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bat first with the aim of boosting their net run rate.

1st Wicket: Arshad Khan strikes in first over

Arshad Khan was given the new ball and he dismissed the dangerous Jake Fraser-McGurk to give the visitors a dream start. The left-arm pacer started with two wides but silenced the Delhi crowd on his second legal delivery. The big-hitter returned to the pavilion without opening his account.

Powerplay 1: Overs 0.1 to 6.0 (Mandatory – 73 runs, 1 wicket)

Despite losing Fraser-McGurk early on, Capitals managed to have an excellent powerplay, thanks to Abishek Porel’s quick-fire knock. The southpaw started with a six off Mohsin Khan in the second over and did not stop his onslaught there. Porel raced to 43* off just 16 balls at the end of the powerplay and before the first strategic timeout.

Delhi Capitals: 100 runs in 9.2 overs

Abishek Porel brought up his fifty in just 21 balls in the seventh over. Ravi Bishnoi removed Shai Hope (38 off 27), who provided good support for the keeper-batter at the other end. That marked the start of a partnership between DC skipper Rishabh Pant and Porel. A wide from Deepak Hooda in the 10th over meant the hosts touched the 100-run mark.

Strategic Timeout 2: Delhi Capitals - 132/3 in 14 overs, Tristan Stubbs (5* off 6), Rishabh Pant (24* off 16)

Naveen-ul-Haq gave a massive breakthrough for LSG in the form of Abishek Porel’s wicket. The aggressive batter tried to clear a slower delivery over the mid-wicket, but Nicholas Pooran took a brilliant catch to end a beautiful innings. With Rishabh Pant keeping the scoreboard ticking and Tristan Stubbs joining the middle, DC are expected to post a big total.

Delhi Capitals: 150 runs in 15.5 overs

Right after the break, left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan bowled a brilliant over, conceding just four runs with the two big hitters at the crease. But Arshad Khan disrupted the momentum in the 16th over by leaking 18 runs, including two fours and a maximum. In the meantime, DC also breached the 150-run barrier.

Innings Break: Delhi Capitals - 208/4 in 20 overs (Axar Patel 14* off 10, Tristan Stubbs 57* off 25)

A fiery start from Abishek Porel and a blistering finish from Tristan Stubbs helped DC cross 200 runs. Naveen-ul-Haq bagged another big wicket of Rishabh Pant in the 17th over, but his final went for 21 runs as Stubbs turned on his beast mode. The South African finished with a 25-ball 57.
