Courtesy of a four-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in their final league game of the season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) finished second on the IPL points table. They finished with 17 points from 14 matches, the same as Rajasthan Royals but the Pat Cummins-led side had a better strike rate. This resulted them in getting two opportunities to qualify for the final of the IPL 2024.
Next, they would face league leaders Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the renowned Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, as the winner would qualify for the summit clash on May 26. The loser meanwhile will be playing Qualifier 2 with the winner of Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The winner of Qualifier 2 will then go to play the winner of Qualifier 1 in the final.

Meanwhile, this is the second time KKR will take on SRH in the 17th edition of the competition. The two franchises met at Eden Gardens earlier in the season, in which KKR picked up a nail-biting four-run victory. They have a long history as well, as both KKR and SRH have denied each other a playoff spot multiple times. This time the odds are different as the winner will have the opportunity to qualify for the final.

What if KKR vs SRH is washed out?
Like most parts of India, Ahmedabad too is witnessing a lot of rain. If the match had been played on May 20, rain could have played a spoilsport but the forecast is much better for May 21. The match should continue without any disturbance but in case, it is disrupted due to rain, the better team in the league would qualify for the final, while the losing team will play Qualifier 2.
