KKR batted well against RCB in the first innings of the 36th match of the IPL 2024. In front of the home crowd, the 2-time champions put on a good batting performance. RCB's skipper Faf Du Plessis won the toss and elected to bowl first. They had three changes as Cameron Green, Mohammad Siraj, and Karn Sharma came into the side. For KKR, there were no changes as they fielded the same XI they did against RR.

Phil Salt was the pick of the batters for KKR who raced away to 48 runs in 14 balls before getting dismissed. From the other end, KKR had decent contributions from the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, and Ramandeep Singh. RCB conceded 20 extras. Cameron Green was the pick of the bowlers for them who claimed 2 wickets and conceded 35 runs in his spell of 4 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 51 runs in 23 balls

Phil Salt went bonkers at the top. The star batter took on the RCB bowlers as Sunil Narine struggled to get going from the other end. While Southpaw failed to put away the wider deliveries, Salt seemed to be at his sublime best. The right-handed batter welcomed Lockie Ferguson on a brilliant note by smashing 2 sixes and 4 fours in the first over. In the process, KKR completed 50 runs as a team in 3.5 overs.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 and First Strategic Time-out (Mandatory – 75/3)

In the following two overs, RCB made a quick return. Mohammad Siraj got the wicket of a dangerous-looking Salt for 48 runs. Yash Dayal got the better of Sunil Narine by bowling a slower wider delivery. He later dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi for 3(4), thanks to a brilliant one-handed catch from Cameron Green. At the end of the first powerplay, KKR registered a score of 75/3. The first strategic timeout was taken at that point.

Shreyas Iyer steadied the innings of KKR along with Venkatesh Iyer. The latter played a quickfire cameo and helped KKR to maintain the run rate. Cameron Green came into the attack and dismissed Venkatesh for 16(8). Rinku Singh joined Shreyas Iyer and hit some blows. The Southpaw scored 24(16) before perishing. In the process, KKR reached the 100-run mark in 53 balls.

Kolkata Knight Riders: 150 runs in 91 balls

As Rinku was sent back to the pavilion, Andre Russell entered the middle. RCB got away with a couple of tight overs. The new batter tried to settle in the middle. It meant Iyer had to take some risks. The KKR skipper hit a couple of boundaries and tried to put pressure back on the bowling side. Right after the end of the 15th over, KKR scored 150 runs.

Half-Century: Shreyas Iyer from 35 balls

Shreyas Iyer anchored the innings from his end. The KKR skipper allowed batters at the other end to express themselves. The right-handed batter scored his fifty in 35 balls. In his stay in the middle, the star batter scored 50 runs in 36 balls, which included 7 fours and a six. After starting slow in the innings, Iyer made up for it to an extent. He was the only batter to score fifty from KKR.

Second Strategic Timeout: Kolkata Knight Riders - 155/5 (16 overs)

Green, the pick of the RCB bowlers, dismissed the KKR skipper for 50(36). KKR managed to post 155 runs for the loss of 5 wickets at the end of the 16th over. After scoring 75/3 in the powerplay overs, the home side scored 82 runs in the middle overs by losing 2 wickets.

End of the Innings: KKR score 222 runs

KKR got a good finish in the last 4 overs. The duo of Andre Russell and Ramandeep Singh went hard at the bowlers. In the last 4 overs, KKR scored 67 runs losing only one wicket in the process. Russell ended his innings with a score of 27*(20). Ramandeep played a fine cameo as he scored 24*(9) which included 2 fours and sixes each.
