In the rich history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), records are made and broken with each passing season. On Sunday, April 14, 2024, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on Mumbai Indians (MI) in a high-stakes clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, and the occasion was marked by a significant milestone for one of the game's most iconic figures, MS Dhoni.

Dhoni, the former India and CSK captain, achieved the remarkable feat of becoming only the second player in the history of T20 cricket to feature in 250 matches for a single team, the first being Virat Kohli for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Dhoni's association with CSK dates back to the inaugural 2008 IPL season, where he was given the captaincy role. Over the years, Dhoni has led the team to five IPL titles, cementing his status as one of the most successful captains in the league's history.

Even after stepping down from the captaincy before the start of the IPL 2024 season, Dhoni continues to be a vital cog in the CSK lineup, guiding the team with his invaluable experience and match-winning abilities.

Dhoni's 250-match milestone for CSK includes 24 appearances he made in the Champions League T20, a now-defunct T20 league. The legendary wicketkeeper-batter's loyalty to the franchise has been unmatched.

Dhoni's 250th match for CSK was nothing short of brilliant for the fans. Walking in to bat in the last over of the first innings, Dhoni smashed three consecutive sixes off Hardik Pandya, taking his team to a highly competitive total of 206/4. Dhoni finished at 20* runs off four balls with a strike rate of 500.

Dhoni also reached a remarkable milestone during the same match against MI as he became the second CSK batter to surpass the 5000-run mark for the franchise, joining the illustrious Suresh Raina, who had scored 5529 runs in 195 innings before his retirement.
