IPL 2024: MS Dhoni joins CSK squad in Chennai ahead of potential swansong

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni arrived in Chennai ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Tuesday, March 05. Notably, the upcoming season is expected to be the last one for the wicketkeeper-batter who had promised his fans to return for another season after receiving immense love from them throughout the country during the 2023 edition of the tournament.

Dhoni led CSK to a record-levelling fifth title in the previous season after a thrilling five-wicket win over Gujarat Titans in the final. The ‘Captain Cool’ departed for a golden duck in the summit clash before Ravindra Jadeja took his team over the line by scoring ten off the last two balls. Following the historic triumph, Dhoni ecstatically lifted Jadeja on his shoulder in a heartwarming moment which became an instant hit all over social media.

Notably, the 42-year-old battled through a knee injury throughout the 2023 season and was welcomed with rousing applause every time he walked onto the pitch. He looked at his vintage best scoring 104 runs from 12 innings in the previous season with his best-ever strike rate in an IPL season of 182.46 clobbering three fours and ten sixes.

Meanwhile, recently Dhoni created a furore on social media after he posted an update regarding the upcoming IPL season. Notably, the wicketkeeper batter lives a secluded life away from media attention and rarely posts on social media as well. However, he took to his facebook account on Monday, March 4 and wrote, “Can't wait for the new season and the new 'role'. Stay tuned!.”

As soon as Dhoni’s post caught fan’s attention, people began decoding the hidden message behind it. Some fans claimed that the CSK captain might be seen opening the innings in the upcoming season while others felt that he might take some other responsibility in the team. However, the real message is yet to be known and will be only cleared once Dhoni comes out in the open to put an end to the speculations.
