Sam Curran continued as the skipper of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) side as he won the toss and chose to bowl first. Jonny Bairstow was rested for the game as Rilee Rossouw came into the side for his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Punjab Kings. 

Rohit Sharma was playing his 250th game in the IPL as Hardik Pandya decided to go in with the same team. It was a huge game for Mumbai Indians after their loss to Chennai Super Kings in the last game.

Milestone Alert: 250 T20 wickets for Kagiso Rabada

Bowling the 3rd over of the innings, Kagiso Rabada struck in the very first ball. Ishan Kishan was caught by Harpreet Brar for 8 at the Deep Point boundary to give Kagiso Rabada his 250th T20 wicket.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 (Mandatory – 54/1)

After the early fall of Ishan Kishan, it was up to Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav to steady the ship. Harshal Patel had trapped Rohit Sharma out LBW but the DRS saved the former MI skipper. The fifty came up with a huge six off Sam Curran as MI started their innings in a strong fashion.

Mumbai Indians: First Strategic Time-out (77/1 from 9 overs)

Mumbai Indians batters survived a few close calls the PBKS bowlers kept a tight leash on the two batting stalwarts. Rohit Sharma was looking good as he played some crisp shots with Suryakumar Yadav looking like his busy self. 

Half-Century: Suryakumar Yadav (off 34 Balls)

Suryakumar Yadav upped the ante as soon as the first time-out was done. The 33-year-old scored his 24th IPL fifty and second of the season from 34 balls. His last half-century came against RCB in just 17 balls last week.

Mumbai Indians- 100 runs from 11.5 overs

Sam Curran struck a huge blow when he had Rohit Sharma caught by Harpreet Brar for 36. This got Tilak Varma to the crease to join Suryakumar Yadav and try to help set a good score on the board.

Mumbai Indians: Second Strategic time-out (109/2 from 13 overs)

The scoring from the Mumbai Indians seemed to slow down after the fall of Rohit Sharma. Suryakumar Yadav was batting on 55 runs when the second time-out was taken.

Mumbai Indians: 150 runs from 16.4 overs

After a few slow overs, the Mumbai Indians batters started to break free. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma hit Kagiso Rabada for two huge sixes in the 16th over to swing the momentum back in Mumbai’s favour. 

Milestone Alert: 50 IPL sixes for Tilak Varma

With a pull shot against Harshal Patel that went into the stands, Tilak Varma got to his 50th six in the IPL. The young batter has been one of the most consistent players for MI in the IPL for the last three seasons.

End of the Innings: Mumbai Indians- 192/7 from 20 overs 

Suryakumar Yadav was the top scorer with the bat with 78 runs. Tim David came out and played a few forceful shots to put the pressure on PBKS bowlers. This total score by Mumbai Indians is the highest ever at this venue.
