Royal Challengers Bengaluru bowlers conceded over 200 runs for the second game in succession. Kolkata Knight Riders batters ran riot to score 222/6 from their 20 overs in what was a must win game for the RCB side. Faf Du Plessis won the toss and chose to bowl and made three changes to his side. Karn Sharma, Cameron Green, and Mohammed Siraj were included in the team.

Phil Salt gave the home team a blazing start by scoring 48 runs from just 14 balls. Just when it looked like KKR were running away with the game, RCB bowlers struck with four wickets at regular intervals. Shreyas Iyer was the top scorer for KKR with 50, while Rinku Singh (24) and Andre Russell (27*) provided the much-needed muscle. Ramandeep Singh came out and scored 24 not out off 9 balls with two fours and two sixes to help KKR reach 222 runs.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 50 runs from 4.4 overs

Virat Kohli began well but was caught and bowled by Harshit Rana in controversial fashion for 18. Varun Chakravarthy then got Faf Du Plessis with the first ball of the over for 7. Will Jacks took the onus of scoring some runs with a few lusty hits.

Powerplay: Overs 0.1 to 6 and First Strategic Time-out (Mandatory – 74/2)

The last over before the powerplay saw Will Jacks open his arms. Three sixes and a four off Mitchell Starc meant that the visitors were in a strong position. When the first time-out was taken, RCB still needed 149 runs from 14 overs with 8 wickets in hand.

Half-Century: Will Jacks from 29 balls

Will Jacks showed why he is rated so highly in the T20 format by smashing his first IPL fifty. The knock came off 29 balls with a four off Varun Chakravarthy to keep RCB in the hunt for a huge win.

Half-Century: Rajat Patidar from 21 balls

If Will Jacks was carving the KKR bowlers open, Rajat Patidar wasn’t far behind. The 30-year-old kept the scoreboard racing with his own big hits. Rajat Patidar who has scored his only IPL ton at this ground reached the 50 with a huge six off Sunil Narine.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 100 runs from 9 overs

Rajat Patidar and Will Jacks cut loose as they seemed at ease against the KKR spinners. Suyash Sharma who came in as an impact player was hit for 21 runs from his first 1.2 overs as the visitors were keeping in touch with the required rate.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru: Second Strategic time-out (181/6 from 16 overs)

Just like Andre Russell did even Sunil Narine got two wickets in a single over to further dent RCB’s hopes. Suyash Prabhudesai and Dinesh Karthik though kept the team in the hunt with 42 runs needed from 4 fours to win the game.

End of the Match: Royal Challengers Bengaluru: 221 all out from 20 overs

Needing 21 runs off the last over, Karn Sharma hit Mitchell Starc for a first-ball six. The next ball the Australian pacer got the edge of the bat but the ball didn't carry to the keeper. This was followed by two sixes off two balls to make it 3 runs from 2 balls. Mitchell Starc though kept a cool head to claim a return catch to dismiss Karn Sharma. KKR held their nerves to win the game by 1 run in what was a pulsating encounter.
