Mumbai Indians handed out debut cap to 23-year-old cricketer Anshul Kambhoj of Haryana. Hardik Pandya and his team who are already out of the Indian Premier League have to win their next three matches to avoid the bottom-place finish.
With the season already the decision to draft Anshul Kambhoj in the playing XI is a last throw of the dice. The 23-year-old has been touted as a gifted performer in domestic and age-group cricket and replaced Gerald Coetzee in the playing XI.
Anshul Kambhoj was picked up by Mumbai Indians for a sum of INR 20 Lakhs during the IPL 2024 auctions. The youngster created a lot of buzz and was well-scouted thanks to his amazing form during the Indian domestic white-ball season.

Anshul Kamboj: Haryana’s rising star
23-year-old Anshul Kamboj who made his debut for Mumbai Indians versus Sunrisers Hyderabad is a very rare talent. Born on the 6th of December 2000 in Karnal, Haryana the youngster began turning heads in the youth set-up.
His debut for his state side came during the 2022 Ranji Trophy season where he played against Tripura. His first foray onto the field saw him score 29 runs and go wicketless from his 29 overs. Till now Anshul Kambhoj has played 13 First Class games and scored 284 and picked 24 wickets.
It is in the white ball format where the youngster has been impressive. His late ordering hitting is well known as he has the ability to give the ball a huge biff. With the ball, Anshul Kamboj can generate decent speeds and also a very disconcerting short ball. With a nippy action he also generates good swing with the in-swinger being the preferred delivery.

In a short career of just 9 T20 matches, Kamboj has picked 11 wickets with an economy rate under 7 and best figures of 3/12. The Haryana star has also played 15 List A matches for his team and picked 23 wickets.
Mumbai Indians known for their vast scouting network seemed to have honed in on the youngster. His debut comes against the high-flying Sunrisers Hyderabad who had already beaten MI earlier this season. If the young 23-year-old can perform well and help MI win, maybe there could very well be a new IPL star on the horizon.
