The BCCI has extended the stipulated extra time for conducting IPL 2025 matches by an hour. Due to the pre-monsoon rains across the country, several venues are affected, with no certainty over successful hosting. All matches of the 18th edition of the league will have an extension of 120 minutes of extra time from May 20 onwards, with a change in clause 13.7.3 coming into immediate effect.
The BCCI confirmed that an extra hour has been added to the stipulated time to provide venues sufficient time to prepare themselves to clear the stadium for the match in case of rain. While the extra time was just 60 minutes before, it has been extended to 120 minutes.
"Previously, the Match Playing Conditions stipulated that for league matches, a period of 60 minutes of extra time was available to commence the match in the event of a delay. In playoff matches, the time was extended to 120 minutes. In light of the current threat of rain and the revised schedule, the IPL Governing Council has decided that, effective May 20, 2025, all IPL matches (including league matches) will have a period of 120 minutes of extra time to commence the match," the BCCI said in a communique.

Several matches are at risk of being affected by rain: BCCI
Due to the tensions between India and Pakistan at the border, the IPL was suspended temporarily, and is being resumed, which will end on June 3. With the new schedule clashing with the rainy conditions being witnessed around the country, there has been a change in the IPL rules with immediate effect.
"As you are aware, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has commenced after a brief hiatus. Due to the hiatus, the IPL will conclude on June 3, 2025. With the early onset of the monsoon and the extended IPL period, several matches are at risk of being affected by rain. Consequently, the IPL governing council has made adjustments to the Match Playing Conditions," it said and went on to add, "Accordingly, Clause 13.7.3 of the IPL Conditions stands suitably modified for IPL 2025 only," BCCI added in their communique.
