Forrester is the second replacement in less than forty-eight hours of time for the Chennai-based franchise. Earlier in the week, CSK had also signed Macneil Noronha, a young all-rounder from Karnataka, as a replacement player for Ramakrishna Ghosh, who has been ruled out of the season due to a foot fracture after just one appearance in his debut IPL stint.

Speaking more of Overton's injury, the bowling all-rounder injured his thigh ahead of CSK's upcoming match against the Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants, slated to be played on Friday, May 15, at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium. According to the franchise's official statement, the English cricketer has been asked to return to the United Kingdom for further medical assessment and procedure.

After the end of Match 57 of IPL 2026, RCB moved to the top of the points table, but it has also affected CSK's chances of qualifying for the playoffs of the marquee T20 tournament. The Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side needs to register wins in all of their remaining three league-stage games to have the best chance of making it through. They are currently placed at the fifth spot on the leaderboard after six wins and 12 points.
