In a commanding run-chase at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat Titans outclassed Royal Challengers Bengaluru to chase down 156 with confidence in Match 42 of the Indian Premier League 2026.
After losing the toss, RCB were put in to bat first, but their innings never truly gained sustained momentum. Despite a promising start, the batting unit failed to build partnerships and suffered a middle-order collapse at a crucial juncture.
Virat Kohli looked in fluent touch early, scoring 28 off just 13 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal top-scored with a brisk 40. However, once the top order was dismissed, wickets fell in clusters. Contributions from Rajat Patidar (19) and Romario Shepherd (17) were not enough to revive the innings, as RCB were bundled out for 155 in 19.2 overs.
For GT, it was a collective bowling effort. Arshad Khan starred with three wickets, while Rashid Khan and Jason Holder picked up two wickets each to keep RCB in check.
In reply, Gujarat Titans began aggressively. Shubman Gill led from the front with a scintillating 43 off 18 balls, while Jos Buttler continued the onslaught with a quickfire 39. The duo ensured GT stayed well ahead of the required rate.
Although RCB managed to pick up a few wickets through Bhuvneshwar Kumar, GTβs depth came to the fore. Rahul Tewatia played the finisherβs role to perfection, scoring an unbeaten 27 to guide his side home in just 15.5 overs, sealing a convincing four-wicket victory.
Key Moments from Match 42 of IPL 2026:
RCB middle-order collapses
RCBβs innings was derailed by a dramatic middle-order collapse after a steady start. Once Kohli and Padikkal were dismissed, the likes of Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, and Krunal Pandya failed to make an impact. Gujaratβs bowlers applied relentless pressure, with Rashid Khan and Arshad Khan striking at regular intervals. The phase saw RCB lose momentum rapidly, preventing them from reaching a more competitive total.
