Veteran broadcaster Ravi Shastri committed a significant on-air blunder during the official pre-match proceedings at Eden Gardens. While anchoring the toss for the crucial fixture between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans, the former India head coach prematurely declared that the visiting side had already secured their mathematical qualification for the tournament play-offs.

The broadcasting error occurred moments after the visiting captain continued his remarkable streak of luck at the toss. Shastri mistakenly informed the skipper that their place in the play-offs was officially confirmed, even though qualification had not yet been mathematically sealed.

“You've got the Q alphabet already stamped against your team, how are you approaching this one?,” Shastri inquired during the toss.

The mistake strongly echoed an earlier broadcasting error made by Shastri during the global final in Ahmedabad. However, Gill chose not to correct the commentator on air. Instead, the opening batter smoothly redirected the conversation toward the team’s internal standards and objectives. He stressed the importance of maintaining complete focus throughout the remaining league-stage fixtures.

Gill pointed out that securing maximum points from their remaining matches remains crucial in order to guarantee a top-two finish, which would provide the side with the valuable double-chance advantage in the knockout phase. The captain also underlined that the squad has no intention of becoming complacent despite their strong position in the standings.

“It's about how the momentum is with us and we have to consistently keep doing the things that we have been doing well. This is not the stage or the time to take any team lightly, but we're hoping to win the next two and be stable in the top two positions,” Gill said.

Speaking about the match, the hosts were asked to bat first and posted a massive 247/2 in their 20 overs. Ajinkya Rahane endured another disappointing outing, managing just 14 runs. However, Finn Allen produced a stunning counterattack, smashing 93 off only 35 deliveries, including four boundaries and 10 sixes.

Later in the innings, Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green stitched together a century partnership in the middle overs, with both batters registering half-centuries to propel the three-time champions to an imposing total.

In the points table, Gujarat Titans occupy second place with 16 points from 12 matches, while Kolkata Knight Riders sit eighth with nine points from 11 games.
