PSL (Pakistan Super League) franchise Islamabad United have roped in former New Zealand batter Martin Guptill as a replacement for UAE batter Mohammad Waseem. The replacement came after Waseem was signed up to represent Islamabad but had to pull out of the tournament due to other assignments.

Waseem was one of the best players in the ILT20 and was roped in by Islamabad midway through the season. However, his services could not be redeemed in the PSL due to the clash of schedules between the PSL and the UAE's Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign in Dubai, which starts next week.

The League 2 ends on March 9, and Islamabad United’s final league stage game is scheduled to be held on March 10. However, with the arrival of Guptill, the side will get some much-needed boost to their lineup. The former BlackCaps batter has represented Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings in the earlier editions of the PSL.

Islamabad United get off to shaky start to PSL 2024

Speaking of the ongoing PSL 2024 season, Islamabad United have competed in two games so far, where they have managed to register one win and one loss. They opened the season by taking on Lahore Qalandars on February 17 and registered a dominant win.

After the first win, United went on to face Multan Sultans in the fifth game of the tournament on February 20, and despite a good start in the season opener, Islamabad United went on to lose the clash against Sultans.

Currently, the side sits in third place in the standings with two points in just as many matches, and they will be aiming to improve in their third game of the season.

It is worth noting that Islamabad United take on Quetta Gladiators for their third game of the tournament at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 22 and the side will look to register a win and stay in contention to make the playoffs of the marquee competition.
