Suryakumar Yadav has admitted that it becomes very difficult to deliver positive results on a consistent basis when you are playing at the international level.

Suryakumar has become a household name in T20 cricket and his rise in 2022 was simply outstanding. He has all the shots in his arsenal and always tries to be one step ahead of the bowler. He just knows what shot to play according to the field and according to the bowler. The right-handed batter plays the same way in all matches and knows how to handle pressure in the biggest of games.

When asked about how he handles the expectations and the pressure on BCCI.TV, he mentioned that, “It is fun. It feels really great. Whenever you go to a different city, you are getting that recognition. At the same time, you can forget what you have been doing before achieving all this and how you have reached till here. It’s a little difficult sometimes, but I just try and remain the same.”

Suryakumar was then asked about how much he is looking forward to the upcoming ODI opportunities. He said, “I have always loved playing this format as well and I am really looking forward to doing well in this tournament. At the same time, nothing changes. The intent and the energy remains the same.”

Surya further added, “I think I try to play situations, whatever situation I bat in. If I am batting at 4, 5 or 6, I look at the situation - what the team demands at the moment. Whatever the team demands, I just go through the motions.”

Although the versatile batter has had great success in T20Is, he is yet to prove his mettle in ODIs. After 17 games in the format for India, he has an average below 30. Suryakumar would be relishing the upcoming opportunity against New Zealand since he would most likely be starting in all three matches in the absence of Shreyas Iyer.
