I've got a lot of one-day and T20 cricket still left in me: Alex Carey

A dip in form has pushed Alex Carey out of the Australian ODI squad. However, the stumper-batter is determined to make a comeback as he believes that plenty of ODI and T20 cricket is left in him.

Carey believes that he was good form in the last twelve months but could not make room for himself in the World Cup squad as his form dipped at the wrong time. He also discussed his T20 career and mentioned that he would love to see get a few more opportunities in the coming months, especially with the T20 World Cup slated to begin in early June.

“I still feel like I’ve had some pretty solid performances over the last 12 months in one-day cricket. The timings of the leaner trot led to that decision (to drop him at the World Cup) from the selection panel. But absolutely I feel like I've got a lot of one-day cricket and T20 cricket still left in me,” Carey was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“I haven't been able to play a lot of T20 cricket – which has been good of course playing Test cricket but I'd love to get the opportunity to play some more T20 cricket over the winter, wherever that may be,” the 32-year-old added.

Meanwhile, Carey’s red-ball form is under the scanner as well. After hitting a terrific century against South Africa in the Boxing Day Test in 2022, the cricketer was expected to maintain his form but his form was average in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as well as the Ashes 2023, which Australia retained. He did play in the World Test Championship final against India and scored 48 and 66 in his team's 209-run win. However, there is still room for improvement for him. In the first Test of the ongoing series against Pakistan, Carey managed to get a good start as he scored 34 runs before Aamer Jamal got the better of him.
