Team India are currently touring West Indies and they have kicked started their new World Test Championship cycle with the start of the first Test in Dominica. The Rohit Sharma-led side completely dominated the first day of the Test match with some fabulous performances. In the same vein, the man who ran through the West Indies batting lineup, Ravichandran Ashwin, who had a memorable day in the ongoing game, praised the new debutant and opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Notably, Jaiswal started with a bit jittery but soon after he picked up his batting rhythm and started to show his exquisite strokeplay. The youngster finished the day with a brilliant unbeaten (40 off 73) ably supported by his skipper, Rohit Sharma (30 off 65) finished strongly with India 80/0 at stumps on Day 1.

Post the conclusion of Day 1, Ashwin interacted with the media and shared his views on the dashing opener and debutant, Yashasvi Jaiswal. After witnessing Jaiswal in action, the veteran spinner believes that the left-handed batter will produce some 'special' performance in the near future. Besides, he also discussed his own performance and said that in the international arena, it was always crucial to adapt to the conditions quickly to keep the opposition batters under the pump.

“Jaiswal is a vibrant cricketer, extremely talented. I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. I think we're going to see some special performances from him," said Ashwin to the media after the end of Day 1.

“Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions,” Ashwin concluded.

Ashwin's 33rd five-wicket haul, Indian openers dominate on day 1 of Dominica Test

Meanwhile, speaking of the game, after winning the toss, batting first, the hosts played some shoddy shots to get bowled out cheaply as West Indies got wrapped up on 150 runs in their first innings. During this collapse, it was the Ashwin bowling show as the legendary off-spinner went on to script history by picking 700 wickets in his career with an impressive five-wicket haul. Notably, he became the third Indian to have achieved the landmark.

In the first Test against the West Indies, the Indian team is playing with two debutants, Ishan Kishan and Jaiswal. The 21-year-old batter got rewarded with a maiden Test call-up after his consistent performances in the domestic circuit and in the Indian Premier League as well. In IPL 2023, Jaiswal played for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and made 625 runs with an emphatic strike rate of 164.
