Former Proteas all-rounder, JP Duminy, has been named as head coach of International League T20 side, Sharjah Warriors.
Duminy, who is also South Africa's white-ball batting coach having taken up the responsibility at the fag end of 2023, has coaching experience in the South African domestic setup as well. He has previously worked with the Boland Rocks which was followed by a coaching stint with the Paarl Royals in the inaugural edition of the SA20.
Duminy expressed his elation at taking charge of a side which was crammed with youthful exuberance for the impending season to commence in January next year. Duminy was also looking forward to filling the squad with some solid reinforcements.
"I am delighted to take up the challenge of being the head coach of the Sharjah Warriorz. This is an excellent set-up, which is vibrant and full of optimism and ideas for the upcoming season. We are looking forward to building a strong squad for this year, and we are excited to see what lies in store for us," stated Duminy, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
The seasoned southpaw is set to contribute vast bouts of experience with the players who will be soon joining the roster. He boasts ample experience in the shortest format with 81 T20Is and 264 T20s under his belt, having contributed with bat and ball in equal proportion.
Duminy has also been a part of the Indian Premier League, the Caribbean Premier League, and the Pakistan Super League, serving as a valuable asset to the various franchises he has represented.
Duminy will be taking over the role of head coach from fellow compatriot, Johan Botha, who was at the helm for the first couple of seasons. In fact, Duminy was previously associated with the Warriors as their batting coach.
