Former India fast bowler S Sreesanth has heaped praise on teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi while also urging him to remain focused on cricket and avoid distractions as his popularity continues to soar.
The 15-year-old recently earned selection in India’s squads for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, becoming the youngest player ever picked for the Indian men’s team. In doing so, he surpassed a 36-year-old record previously held by Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at the age of 16 against Pakistan in 1989.
Speaking about the youngster’s rapid rise, Sreesanth lauded Sooryavanshi’s dedication, hard work, and the sacrifices made by his family throughout his journey.
“Man, no matter how less we say about Suryavanshi… it won’t be enough. I mean, no matter how much we praise him, it will still fall short,” Sreesanth was quoted as saying by Time of India.
“So I will say that Sooryavanshi’s family.. and the young kids who are watching and thinking ‘I want to be like him too’—you achieve it because he has shown the way. First, Sachin Paji showed us, then Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma came along. But I would say what Vaibhav, what Vaibhav has shown, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, that is a prime example of commitment and perseverance,” he continued.
The former pacer then offered a word of caution to the teenage prodigy, advising him to stay grounded and concentrate on his cricket while allowing his family to handle matters away from the field.
“Vaibhav, if you are watching this, my request to you is to leave these managers aside and focus on yourself. Your father will handle things, and your family members will handle things. Stay away from these professional managers,” continued.
With expectations surrounding Sooryavanshi continuing to grow, Sreesanth believes the youngster’s discipline and commitment have already set an example for aspiring cricketers across the country.
The former India seamer emphasised that staying focused on the game and avoiding unnecessary distractions will be crucial as the young batter prepares for the next phase of his promising career.
