Left-arm pacer Matt Taylor signs fresh two-year deal with Gloucestershire

In a recent development within English domestic cricket, left-arm medium-fast bowler, Matt Taylor, has secured a new two-year contract with his county side and boyhood club, Gloucestershire.

The 30-year-old has pledged his future to the club until the conclusion of the 2026 season, having dedicated his entire professional career to Gloucestershire.

The tenacious fast bowler boasts the rare distinction of being one of the elusive bowlers other than Harbhajan Singh to have delivered a maiden over against the formidable Chris Gayle in T20s. He also earned the club's Young Player of the Year award for 2016, as well as selection for the England Pace Programme, and has accumulated a total of 319 wickets across all formats during his 13-year tenure with Gloucestershire. His record is distinguished by 215 wickets in first-class matches, 37 in List-A games, and 67 in T20 encounters.

Mark Alleyne, head coach of Gloucestershire, in an official statement released on the club's website, lauded Matt for his exceptional performance during the 2024 edition of the Vitality Blast. He praised Taylor's vibrant and encouraging demeanor within the dugout, noting how his presence has been both refreshing and motivational. Alleyne also conveyed the collective enthusiasm of the club members to witness Taylor's commitment to Gloucestershire’s cricketing pursuits for the forthcoming years, highlighting their eagerness to see him continue his contributions to the team. 

"Matt has been in terrific form for us particularly in the Vitality Blast, impacting so many games, but never taking that for granted. Not only that, Matt is a real force of good in the changing room and we're all delighted to see him commit the next couple of years to Gloucestershire," Alleyne told the club website.

Undoubtedly, Matt Taylor has demonstrated exceptional prowess for Gloucestershire in the current edition of the Blast, having secured 23 wickets in 13 innings at a sparing economy rate of 7.03.
