In a gripping final clash of Legends League Cricket 2023 at Surat's Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, the Manipal Tigers clinched victory in the second edition of the LLC. Their triumph came in a thrilling encounter against Urbanrisers Hyderabad, triumphing by 5 wickets with just six balls to spare. Choosing to field first after winning the toss, Manipal Tigers skipper Harbhajan Singh, exhibited astute leadership, guiding his team tactically.
Urbanrisers Hyderabad faced an early blow as Martin Guptill departed without putting any runs on the board. The challenges escalated with Dwayne Smith's dismissal at 21 runs, courtesy of Mitchell McClenaghan's adept bowling. Despite the setbacks, Rikki Clarke's impressive 80 runs and Gurkeerat Singh's solid 64 propelled Urbanrisers to a competitive total of 187/5 in their allotted 20 overs.
Responding to the target, Manipal Tigers displayed unwavering determination in their chase. Robin Uthappa and Chadwick Walton provided a sturdy start with a partnership worth 71 runs. Despite some crucial wicket losses, Asela Gunaratne's unbeaten 51, aided by contributions from Angelo Perera (30) and Thisara Perera (25) guided Manipal Tigers towards victory.
The match witnessed a nail-biting finish when just a single run was required for titleship. The dismissal of Perera added tension, but Colin de Grandhomme stepped up, smashing a six on his first ball, securing the championship for Manipal. Stuart Binny emerged as the standout bowler for Urbanrisers, claiming 3 crucial wickets for 20 runs. Pankaj Singh (2/43), McClenaghan and Perera also contributed significantly, securing vital wickets for Manipal Tigers.
