World Cup champions Robin Uthappa and S. Sreesanth have joined India Maharajas ahead of the next edition of the Legends League Cricket.

Uthappa, who is yet to retire from all formats of the game, was part of the commentary panel in the last edition of the tournament. Watching the game from close quarters, the 37-year-old expressed his desire to feature in the tournament and stated that he is inspired by the enthusiasm of other fellow cricketers.

“It was great to see the Legends play while I was commentating in the last season of Legends League Cricket. I am inspired by the enthusiasm. Now I will be on the field playing with my old mates. It will be fun,” said Uthappa in an official statement.

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old Sreesanth mentioned that there’s a lot of competition in the tournament and that he is proud to represent the nation once again.

“We thoroughly enjoyed the second season. The level of competition was beyond our own expectations. We expect this season to be more exciting, considering different teams from World, Asia and India. It is always a proud moment to play for India,” Sreesanth said.

Shahid Afridi, Misbah-ul-Haq, Muttiah Muralitharan to feature as well

Former Pakistan skippers Shahid Afridi and Misbah-ul-Haq will also participate in the upcoming edition of the Legends league. Both cricketers are set to represent Asia Lions along with spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan. Meanwhile, Lendl Simmons has also agreed to participate and will be representing the defending champions World Giants.

“It will be fun to play with old mates and rivals. I am looking forward to a competitive season,” said Afridi after putting things on paper. Test cricket’s all-time leading wicket-taker Muralitharan has said he will play the tournament with much more enthusiasm and fun.

In the meantime, the league committee has recently signed Simon Taufel as the Director of Match Ethics & Regulations, to strengthen Legends League Cricket fans' faith in the integrity of the tournament.
